ICYM (Sacred Heart Yuvak Sangh)
The Sacred Heart youth association was founded in Suratkal parish under the able guidance of Rev. Fr William Veigas the year 1973. The first meeting was held on april 1st,1973. Mr. Raymond Roche, Mr. Peter D’Souza, Mr. Henry D’Silva and Mr. Albert D’Souza were appointed as the founder president, secretary, joint-secretary and treasurer respectively.The association began with 25 members.
Aims and Objectives
- The educational, cultural and spiritual development of Suratkal parish.
- To help the needy and improve their standard of life irrespective of rsce, religion or caste.
- To engage in social work and improve the living condition of poor families.
- To give opportunities for expression of talents by organisig spiritual,educational and cultura programme.
- To creat an ideal personalities through application of Christian principles and values
Services rendered by the youth association (1973-2005)
Spiritual Service:Spiritual services were renderd in several ways
- Choir services on different occasions.
- Church decoration ad general cleanliness during festivals.
- Active participation in al spiritual programmes.
- Honouring the students who received the first rank in the 7th and 10th standard catechism examination.
Financial Services: The youth association raised funds and gave necessary help to those in financial need.
- Rennovation of the church bell tower(belfry).
- A water tank for the personal use of the parish priest.
- The new school building.
- Victims of accidents and diseases.
- A stage on the school grounds for cultural programes.
- Leveling the school grounds
Cultural Services:The youth association has not only organized but also actively participated in various competition at various levels.
Participation in singing competition, sports, drama competitions held at parish, varado,and diocese level.
- Organised competitions for the people of the parish.
- Entertained the parishioners by organizing parish day celebrations, nights, Christmas shows, fancy fete’s, drama’s etc..
Social Services: The youth association has always been an active social working unit, labouring for the wefare of yhe society.
- Successfully organized leadership and spiritual seminars.
- Organised self employment seminars and workshops.
- Voluntered as workers during the building of yhe church.
- Honoured the students of SSLC and PUC who had bagged yhe top marks during a programme organized on the occasion of Independence Day.
- Voluntered as workers while building houses for the poor.
The scred heart youth association organized the Silver jubilee hall on 4th may 1997.
Activities of 2006: The youth association organized/celebrated
- Vanamahotsava on june 25.
- A youth meet for the youth of the parish on aug 20.
- A seminar on mas media on aug 27, as part of ICYM diamond jubilee celebrations.
- Inter-ward singing competition on sept 8
- pezar varado level diamond Jubilee holy cross procession held in surathkal on 1st October
- on 29th of October vado Level variety entertainment pragramme was organized.
- on 5th of November Throw ball, Volley ball match was organized at the vado level;
